I am looking for a good, inexpensive online screenwriting course.?
September 29, 2008
I need one that is affordable and about 6-10 weeks long, if possible. If anyone knows of any good writing courses online specifically for screenwriting then please pass the website on to me. It would be greatly appreciated!
I have never found one worth it. The best way is to read scripts, understand the formatting and write scripts with new ideas. Or old ideas that have been done a million times but told differently ex. Romeo and Juliet… on a ship, Titanic! There are some books that can be read but be prepared to be told different things from different people. There is not a real way to do it so if your script is different it will be torn apart by that person.
and knowing someone in the industry helps get it made no matter what it's like…

Does anyone know of any writers with a business degree?
September 29, 2008
I'm a creative writer, and I have considered going for an English degree. However, I know that English isn't the most marketable degree. I am actually closer to a business degree with the help of many courses I've taken through the military, and I know that's a more marketable degree, so I'm leaning toward getting that busimness degree.
Basically, I'm wondering if going for the Business degree would be a wise decision. I know the English degree would help my writing, but I can still write on the side regardless of what degree I get. I want to also be able to have a marketable degree because I can't exactly count on creative writing as a stable form of income. It would ease my mind a bit if I knew of people that achieved their business degree, and still remained creative.
Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.
A business degree could be used to enter the technical writing field. Technical writers are in high demand and usually well paid for their work. You could then do creative writing in your off hours.

What would it take to get an entry-level position as a copywriter?
September 27, 2008
I have a degree in Business but haven't taken many writing courses that I can add to my resume - but I CAN write. So what would be suggested to get such a position without any "real" experience or formal training in such an area.
Set up a blog, write articles and post on ezine and article directories. You can put your link back to your blog and if you are good, people will find you. Be sure to put some affiliate links on your blog to monitize it.

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

How to write professional letter?
September 25, 2008
For my business course I need to write up a claim letter on behalf of my boss. Couple of questions…
1. Do I write it as if she has written it? Or do I write it as I have written it on her behalf?
2. Then depending on how you answered question 1, how do I close the letter? Do I put my name somewhere below her signature?
3. And also where do I add in that there are enclosures?
If you could give me how many spaces go in between things as well, that would be great! Thanks!
I would like to know how, exactly, the question is worded…if it says "write a claim letter on behalf of your boss," that's a little vague, but I would have to guess that it is meant to be written as if she had written it herself. A letter that said "I'm writing this for my boss" wouldn't be very professional.
Assuming it's in the voice of your boss:
Under the signature, add enough space for her to sign, usually 2 or 3 returns, then her typed name. Then under that, one blank line, then her initials:your initials lowercase. Under that, one blank line, then "Enclosures". Like this:
Sincerely,
Joan P. Smith

I need a great opening sentance for my business 'sales' letter?
September 24, 2008
Having difficulty writing a catchy but professional opening sentance. Our company has to send out letters to potential clients (other companies) offering our services (outdoor maintance) - so chances are we will need to get on their 'approved contractors list' or something ….
'maintenance' even
I suggest that you give it to someone else to write your letter.
Your letter might rub off the wrong way and might think you from foriegn countries.
I have that same problem so don't think I am insulting you.
