Can someone please guide me with the decision to pursuing an online course?

I've found out the details & I am interested in pursuing this course in Medical Writing. I find the fees reasonable, the university (Steven's Education, New Jersey) is accreditated & one of the best in offering Distance Learning courses. My points of concern are:
1. Are online courses really good? Only those who have taken such courses or are pursuing them please give your opinions (pros & cons).
2. Will I have to purchase books in the duration of the course? Will it be troublesome to get the books shipped in time from NJ to India?
3. What exactly do the studies constitute of in an online course. Is it just reading the study material provided & completing the MCQ, fill in the blank assignments?
4. Any other cons of pursuing an online course?
Kindly help. Thanks in advance.

I have taken many online courses. They are a bit more challenging than in class. If you have a question for the teacher, you have to email and wait for the answer. Most teachers have answered pretty quickly though. But you have to do your work early just for that reason. You also have to have a good Internet connection especially during tests. If you go offline during a test, some teachers request that you show proof from your provider. You still have to buy books. Your best bet is to go through Barnes and Nobles, since they have used books and they are cheaper. You can also get them through the school that you are using to go online. They will send them by mail. But make sure you get them early too. I don’t know anything about getting them shipped to India. I’m not even sure how the school would handle that. You would probably have to get your books through a bookstore and I’m not sure if they would even send them out of the country. I just don’t know….The work depends on the subject. English was all essays. History was assignments (answering questions) and essays. The only true/false/fill in the blanks/ choose the best answer were on the tests. Make sure that the school is nationally accredited since some accredited schools may be accredited locally. If you want to pursue a higher degree, you want to make sure that those credits are going to transfer. This is SO IMPORTANT!

Writing courses?

I live in atlanta and i'm trying to find a writing course outside of a university or online to polish my writing skills. Have any ideas or should i just take some classes at a local college. I didn't want to do that because most require u get a degree. I already have 2. i just need to take a english course and maybe creative writing class or playwright course. and suggestions.

I don't know how many of these are good I can't afford all of them, but I know they are there.

Several colleges and junior colleges have writing courses on line. If there is a Junior college nearby most have creative writing as continuing education or allow anyone to take any classes they want to.

writers digest has several courses. Their site is www.writersdigest.com

Local libraries have writing groups that will help critique. How much help they are varies widely by the level of leadership.

The best online writing group is http://museitupclub.tripod.com/
To Join:

Writers who are interested in joining this community and have their fellow peers critique their work in a small and friendly group can email Lea Schizas at:

museitupeditor@yahoo.ca

with the subject heading 'Membership' . In the body of your email, please provide the answers to the following questions:

1- YOUR NAME

2- YOUR WRITING GENRE

3- WRITING STYLE: FLASH FICTION? SHORT STORIES? NOVELS?

4- ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A MEMBERSHIP OR MODERATOR POSITION?

5- BRIEF BIO (IF AND WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED)

6- WHICH GROUP(S) ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JOINING? (NO MORE THAN TWO GROUPS.)

7- PLEASE SEND IN A SAMPLE OF YOUR WRITING, NO MORE THAN A FEW PARAGRAPHS. THIS WILL ENABLE US TO PLACE YOU IN THE APPROPRIATE WRITING GROUP.

which online creative writing course is good?

There seem to be very few really good ones. I taught creative writing several years, but have been out of it for a while.

I noticed that most of the online courses that are offered are not what you expect at all any more. In a creatie writing course, you think you'll get to do some writing, but I took a look at one instructor's curriculum, and the first six weeks entailed no writing assignments!

Check everything out carefully before you send anyone money or sign any agreements. There are some serious rip-offs on the internet. :)

Good luck to you!

Are there any good, free online writing courses?

I'd like to take a course in literary writing, however I don't have the money to go back to college and there doesn't seem to be much available here in Spain, in terms of workshops.
Are there any *good*, trustworthy free Internet sites with this sort of thing, or am I just dreaming?

I am looking for a good, inexpensive online screenwriting course.?

I need one that is affordable and about 6-10 weeks long, if possible. If anyone knows of any good writing courses online specifically for screenwriting then please pass the website on to me. It would be greatly appreciated!

I have never found one worth it. The best way is to read scripts, understand the formatting and write scripts with new ideas. Or old ideas that have been done a million times but told differently ex. Romeo and Juliet… on a ship, Titanic! There are some books that can be read but be prepared to be told different things from different people. There is not a real way to do it so if your script is different it will be torn apart by that person.
and knowing someone in the industry helps get it made no matter what it's like…

Can anyone recommend an online writing class?

I'm thinking of taking a class at Zoetrope-All Story (they partnered with Gotham) but it's at $420, so I'm wondering if anyone here has taken it (the Advanced Fiction Writing Course) or any course there, how was it, what did you think of it?

Also, any other good, helpful advanced online writing class info is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Shalla

Check out the free online courses at http://barnesandnoble.com. They aren't college classes, but are typically taught by a college prof or some other professional with experience in the field. They recommend books to purchase and give you assignments to complete. Plus there is an online community for you to discuss ideas and problems.

Novice writer looking for online book clubs & creative writing websites & on-line courses.?

I just completed my first manuscript (have written many) this is the first I am really interested in getting feedback on & eventaully want to have published. A very helpful person here directed me to www.critters.org. I am enjoying this site & the opportunity to review work. Critters is more for horror/science fiction, but reading/reviewing all literature is beneficial. I am more interested in a group that focuses on fiction/mystery/drama/suspense. I am an attorney and I tend to write legal, courtoom fiction with a romance/mystery twist. I also write alot of legal/medical suspense mystery as well. Please provide any websites that you know of. I want to take an on-line creative writing course, but am also looking for any & all sites for beginners.

You might want to check out Inkify:

http://www.inkify.com

Free registration and no advertisements. The website is undergoing a bit of a redesign at the moment, so a temporary style is in place.

It's small right now, but we have some nice conversations going and it'll grow in time. The articles section is going to get expanded before long as well.
