microsoft online has lots of templates so you can use that for a start.

Yes. Proof read your letter, this one needed that. Don't use all capital letters. Since you didn't catch that, I have to assume you don't know it is improper. Have someone else proof it also. Hopefully, they would have caught the word advise used instead of advice.

Don't use abbreviations, especially when only one word of a group is abbreviated and the other is not. It looks sloppy. You also left the ending period off of the end of your post and the previous sentence. When I look at people's writing, I see these things, your potential boss might also see them.

What training and experience do you have in sales? Why would anyone give you a chance? Tell them those things. Sell yourself to them. If you can't sell yourself, how are you going to sell the company's product.

Sales and clerical take very different skills. You have proven yourself at clerical, prove to them why you are a good candidate for sales.

Having difficulty writing a catchy but professional opening sentance. Our company has to send out letters to potential clients (other companies) offering our services (outdoor maintance) – so chances are we will need to get on their 'approved contractors list' or something ….

I suggest that you give it to someone else to write your letter.

Your letter might rub off the wrong way and might think you from foriegn countries.

I have that same problem so don't think I am insulting you.

First of all, the letter must grab the reader's attention. Make them want to know more about your product/service.

Then, you'll want to explain a little about what you have to offer.

Finally, make certain to give them a way to follow up on their interest. This typically will be a direct phone number at which they may contact you.

Focus on the headline, make it benefit driven and compelling. Be sure to use benefit driven sub headlines in the copy and benefit driven photo captions. Stress the benefit to the user, focus all copy on your end user, the client, customer, prospect etc.
