need HELP WRITING A LETTER TO GET A PROMOTION?
I HAVE BEEN AN ADMIN./CLERICAL PERSON AT MY COMPANY FOR 10 YEARS AND WOULD LIKE TO GET PROMOTED TO SALES. I NEED TO WRITE A LETTER
ANY ADVISE WOULD BE APPRICATED
Yes. Proof read your letter, this one needed that. Don't use all capital letters. Since you didn't catch that, I have to assume you don't know it is improper. Have someone else proof it also. Hopefully, they would have caught the word advise used instead of advice.
Don't use abbreviations, especially when only one word of a group is abbreviated and the other is not. It looks sloppy. You also left the ending period off of the end of your post and the previous sentence. When I look at people's writing, I see these things, your potential boss might also see them.
What training and experience do you have in sales? Why would anyone give you a chance? Tell them those things. Sell yourself to them. If you can't sell yourself, how are you going to sell the company's product.
Sales and clerical take very different skills. You have proven yourself at clerical, prove to them why you are a good candidate for sales.
P.S. TNA gave an excellent answer.

I would also suggest that you professionally talk to him in-person. You can really make you case better face-to-face so he can see how passionate you aree about the position. Emotions like that cannot be conjveyed properly in a letter. Also since this is a sales position, you should do this verbally because sales people knwo how to talk and if you give your boss a letter they might look at you as if you are too shy to speak-up thus are not able to handle the "speaking" part of a sales job.
I would still keep a list with you keeping track of:
1-Why you want the sales position
2-What you think you can bring to that position
3-Why you are qualified for it (ex: you have been with the company for 10 years so you are (a) very familiar with the company and its products; b) Believe in the company and its products).
4-All your accomplishents on your current position
5-Your favourable job evaluations to show that you have always been considered a good employee
Be prepared, be confident and go for it!
I also listed two sites below with tips on how to ask for a promotion.
Good luck!
